Night run in Kigali

Night run in Kigali

In the beginning of the year, I mentioned my subscription to a new mantra dubbed 555. Triple 5 requires one to run 5 kilometers, at 5 in the morning, 5 times a week. Ten months down the line, my discipline hasn’t been shabby at all. I have been following this routine religiously.

Sometime in August, I thought I was over training. I considered cutting down the number of kilometers covered weekly but my body was already addicted to the routine. I kept grinding. Why fight a healthy addiction?

Running has been taking place 5 times a week but, I have to admit, the 5 a.m. part hasn’t been consistent. There have been late nights of extracurricular activities, followed by skipped morning sessions. Whenever 5 a.m. finds me in slumberland, I spare some time over the course of the day to run.

Sometimes I run in the woods while visiting places out of town. That explains why I always pack running gear even on a day trip. Burning calories while bonding with nature is priceless.

The pursuit of fitness has taught me important life lessons. For starters, attaining fitness goals requires discipline. The same discipline we need in order to achieve our business and life goals.

Secondly, the fitness journey is a gradual process. There are no shortcuts. To reach the upper floors, one needs to take the stairs, one step at a time. Lifts don’t exists. The process is slow but it doesn’t have to be painful. With the right alignment of body, mind and soul, one can undoubtedly enjoy the journey. It’s fun. There is a reason some of us get addicted to workouts.

I need a whole day to talk about fitness but, I understand, you (the reader) don’t have a whole day. You are a busy person. I appreciate the three minutes you are spending on this post.

Yesterday, I woke up late and, before I blinked, the day was over. It was at 9 p.m. when I realized I was about to miss my daily dose of vitamin fitness. It was getting late but it’s never too late to take care of your body. Besides, curfew time has been pushed to midnight. I laced them up and had a good run around that beautiful roundabout surrounded by the Radisson Blu, Kigali Convention Center (KCC), Kigali Heights and Kigali Business Center (KBC).
