Let’s Talk About Bicycles

It’s a beautiful sunny day here in Kigali, Rwanda. I am nursing some coffee while talking about bicycles with Sean Belfast, the founder of Belfast Workshop.

Before we get back to Sean, allow me to write something about the premises in which his workshop is set up. The property, known as Maguru, is located on KG 622 Street. It encompasses an accommodation facility, coffee bar and coworking spaces.

Rooms, coffee, bikes and shared offices form a package that solves the dilemma faced by tourists in pursuit of business and leisure. In addition, this one-stop-center attracts Kigali-based cycling enthusiasts and digital entrepreneurs.

Kigali is a cycling-friendly city. The roads of the cleanest city in Africa have designated cycling lanes. Moreover, two-wheel tours outside the capital are highly recommended. Maguru offers bike rental and tour guiding services. It is a legacy-driven enterprise, but that’s a story for another day.

Formerly identified as African American, the owner of Belfast Workshop is driven by the love for cycling and affinity to his roots. Sean came to Rwanda in 2016 and never looked back.

He spent his first three years in the land of 1,000 hills fixing bicycles and grooming young Rwandan mechanics at the Africa Rising Cycling Center. He is currently importing and distributing bikes while keeping his hands busy with regular maintenance work.
