Coffee Break: Muhazi Marina Beach

Coffee Break: Muhazi Marina Beach

A couple of days ago, I published a post about my off-road ride from Gasabo to Gatsibo via Gicumbi. While on this off-the-beaten path, I had coffee at Muhazi Marina Beach on the Gicumbi side of Lake Muhazi.

I was navigating the route I had never used before. I didn’t even know that Muhazi Marina Beach exists. It was one of those unscripted stopovers I usually incorporate into my solo tours. After all, this was a random ride — the kind of spin you indulge in to clear your mind.

While waiting for my coffee, I checked out the rooms. I was impressed by what I saw. However, I couldn’t access the wooden cabins on the far end of the property because they were occupied.

As I sipped my coffee, I marveled at the gentle waves and listened to the sound of the natural phenomenon that has become my favorite song lately. On the other side of the lake, I saw Don Bosco Spiritual Center. I have never been there but I am planning to pay a visit and find out what the establishment has to offer.

Lake Muhazi is narrow and shallow. It’s a flooded valley lake spanning the distance of about 50 kilometers. From the sky, it looks like a tree lying horizontally on the surface of the earth.

Muhazi Marina Beach is on the western tail of the lake. The facility has a beach volleyball court and manicured gardens. Its artistically designed cottages and wooden cabins attract visitors in pursuit of serenity and nature-based tourism.
